Soundlapse and acoustic monitoring at Bosque Pehuén
A new article from Fundación Mar Adentro (4 August 2026) explores the potential of acoustic monitoring at its Bosque Pehuén reserve, including the collaboration with Soundlapse. The piece notes that Felipe Otondo visited the reserve in October 2024 to make the first bird recordings, and that continuous sampling with three recorders began in September 2025, running through September 2026. Together with bioacoustics researcher Gabriel Morales, the team is studying the acoustic communities of four ecosystems in southern Chile, including Bosque Pehuén.
The article also highlights the June 2025 discovery of the call of the tree frog (Hylorina sylvatica), a species never before recorded at the reserve, detected by Gabriel Morales during a field visit alongside Otondo. It frames this work within three complementary lines of research at Bosque Pehuén: science, conservation and sound art.
